Hi – You’ve got a great blog! I’ve just discovered it, as I am thinking of moving to San Miguel. I must admit, the articles about the dogs have me concerned. Has this problem been resolved? Your neighbors seem nice enough to be able to talk to about this issue. Thanks!
Hi,
Hi, thank you for the compliment.
Don’t worry too much about dogs in Mexico because it happens everywhere in SMA. At one time or another, wherever you live here in town, there will probably be an annoying dog for a short period. I think just about all of our friends in various parts of towns have had one. Talking with your neighbor usually resolves it. Sometimes, like in the case of our neighbor Eutimio, he didn’t quite know how to resolve it right away, so with patience, he figured it out and the dog has been gone over a year now. He also communicated with us about it while he was figuring it out. People like having dogs here but don’t have the education about training them that we get in the US.
Aside from that, there are ways to work with a dog problem including filing a complaint with SPA the animal shelter or with the dept of Ecologia. They come right out to assess if the dog is being abused or offensive within a few days and talk with the owners & the problem is usually solved pretty quickly. We chose not to go that route because we were in communication with our neighbors and figured a little patience while he figured it out was better than filing a complaint that might cause some resentment. The funny thing about that situation is that by waiting, it gave us a lot of opportunities to talk with them and get to know them. After all they have lived here over 15 years and we were the newcomers. It was worth the waiting and talking with them.
